I am an accomplished features writer for one of UK’s best-selling magazines. I’ve written dozens of scripts for documentaries. I’m now taking on a new challenge – writing a history book about the Roman emperor, Nerva.
"As the emperor bared his throat to the guardsman, ordering the man to strike, it is hard to know whether he really expected to die. Over the years, he had seen many others adopt this kind of Stoic indifference to their own demise. If his life was going to end now, better to set a good example for the history books."
After leaving the University of Oxford in 2014 with an MPhil in Roman history, I didn’t stop my research. I’d already written a highly acclaimed essay on the career of Marcus Cocceius Nerva, but I knew there was a bigger story to tell about his mysterious rise to power. Nerva and his family, the Cocceii, had wielded enormous influence in the imperial court for decades, often operating from the shadows. Few people have heard of them, but they were involved in some of the darkest and bloodiest episodes of Roman history.
I’ve had over 200 articles and features published in Men’s Health UK since completing an internship at the magazine in 2014. It wasn’t all about biceps and protein shakes. I was able to interview world renowned athletes and explorers, test out the latest gadgets, visit cutting edge fitness facilities and train with the Royal Marines. You can see some of my published work below.
